Our Whole Lives: Sexuality and Aging\n

On Campus at Union Theological Seminary\n

This course is offered IN PERSON Fridays, September 18 & 25, 9am-3pm (with lunch)\n

Join us for a two-session Our Whole Lives experience designed for older adults who want to engage in thoughtful, respectful conversation about sexuality, aging, and faith. Together, we will explore our attitudes about aging, changing bodies, family relationships, communication across generations, sexuality and loss, body image, and the ways intimacy, identity, and spirituality continue to shape our lives throughout the aging process. Through guided reflection, discussion, and practical activities, participants will have the opportunity to deepen self-understanding, learn from one another, and discover new ways to embrace the gifts of every stage of life. The program meets for two full-day Friday sessions, 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. No prior experience is needed. Participants are invited to come with curiosity, an open mind, and a willingness to listen and share in a supportive, confidential community.\n

Instructor Bios:\n

Rev. Amanda Meisenheimer is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ and serves as pastor of Church on the Hill in Flushing, Queens. She previously served on the clergy team at Riverside Church in New York City and holds a Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary. Amanda is also a curriculum writer whose work has been published by Illustrated Ministry, United Women in Faith, and Augsburg Fortress. She enjoys creating thoughtful, welcoming spaces for learning and conversation and is delighted to facilitate this Our Whole Lives experience.

The Rev. Dr. Ron Wells, a dynamic force in his community, was ordained as a United Church of Christ minister on February 10, 1985, and has been inspiring congregants as the Senior Pastor of Union Congregational Church for an incredible 25 years! With an impressive background as a Captain in the US Navy Reserve Chaplaincy, he dedicated 30 years of service, including a remarkable nine-month tour in Afghanistan, where he offered spiritual guidance in one of the world’s most challenging environments. Beyond his military achievements, Rev. Dr. Wells is a retired Principal from New York City, shaping the lives of countless students. Proudly, he is the father of seven wonderful children and a doting grandfather to seven delightful grandchildren. His journey is a testament to service, leadership, and family!

Rev. Andrea Steinkamp (she/her) is the former Associate Pastor at St. Paul and St. Andrew United Methodist Church. Her call to ministry is rooted in a desire to create and facilitate spaces of respite and community where people can be fed, both physically and spiritually, nourished to encourage and sustain their ethical action in the world. Andrea received her Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary with a concentration in cross-testament Biblical studies, where she was the recipient of The Hudnut Award, The Maxwell Fellowship of Auburn Seminary and The Scholarly Excellence Award. Rev. Steinkamp is an ordained Minister of Word and Sacrament in the United Church of Christ (“UCC”). She is a certified facilitator of the Our Whole Lives (“OWL”) Lifespan Sexuality Education Curriculum. Prior to attending seminary, Andrea was an active lay leader for the Collegiate Church of New York and its ministries, serving as both an Elder and Deacon. She currently serves on the Executive Committee of The Reformed Association of the New York Conference of the United Church of Christ as its Treasurer.
